Iowa's Biggest Used-Car Lot in Urbandale?
The Urbandale City Council will be asked to approve a new enlarged plan for a Carmax used-car dealership -- the first in Iowa.

Urbandale would be home to the state's largest used-car dealership if the City Council tonight approves a development plan submitted by Carmax.
Carmax is the country's largest used-car retailer, with more than 100 locations around the country.Â
Here are the stats provided in a memo to the council from Urbandale Planning Director Paul Dekker:

- 11.55-acres lot at 10315 Hickman Road
- A 41,277-square-foot building that will be a showroom, sales, administration and service building.
- 158 parking spots for customers and employees -- accessible from 104th Street.
- 329 parking spaces south of the building for displaying vehicles for sales.
- 677 feet of frontage on Hickman Road; 785 feet of frontage on 104th Street.
City Manager A.J. Johnson said the city approved a site plan for the company in January of this year, but this plan has been revised to be a larger facility.
"We're excited about having them in the community," he said "This is the first and only one in Iowa and one of the largest Carmax sites."

The Urbandale Planning and Zoning Commission approved the revised site plan last week. Dekker's office has recommended approval of the plan with caveats on drainage and water lines suggested by the commission.
