Just Exercising A Woman's Prerogative? Urbandale Police Didn't Think So

An Urbandale woman told police her boyfriend had taken her truck to Oklahoma without her permission. After he was arrested, she changed her story, said Lt. Rob Johansen

Urbandale police charged Suzanne Bassett, 33, of Urbandale on June 4 with making a false report to a public safety officer.

Bassett originally came to the police station to report that her boyfriend took her pickup without her permission and that he'd driven it to Oklahoma, where he had gotten into an accident.

Johansen said the Urbandale officer took the report, entered the truck's information and license plate into the national computer system as a stolen vehicle. Oklahoma police later arrested the boyfriend there.

He said Bassett then came back to the police station after her boyfriend had been arrested and said that she had changed her mind and wanted to drop all the charges. She added that she had lied when she originally said he took the truck without her permission.

Not so fast, said police. They charged Bassett with making a false report.
