Lock Your Cars Urbandale, Thieves Target Electronics

Several Urbandale residents reported thefts from locked and unlocked vehicles in the past two weeks.

Urbandale has had a rash of thefts from cars during the past two weeks, according to police reports. 

Tuesday, March 27: A 45-year-old Urbandale woman reported that her car was burglarized overnight while it was parked at her home in the 9000 block of Valdez Drive. A purse and an iPad were taken.

Thursday, March 29: A Garmin GPS device was stolen overnight from the unlocked vehicle of a 24-year-old woman while it was parked at Westpointe Apartments, 7400 block of Camden Lane.

Thursday, March 29: A 26-year-old Urbandale man told police his Nissan Maxima was broken into overnight while it was parked in the 2500 block of Canterbury Road and his wallet was stolen. 

Friday, March 30: A digital camera was taken from an unlocked Toyota Corolla, owned by 24-year-old Urbandale woman while it was parked overnight Friday at her apartment in the 7500 block of Canterbury Road.

Saturday, April 1: A handgun was reported stolen from a Jeep Cherokee Saturday morning that was parked in the 4400 block of Northwest Urbandale Drive. The theft was reported by a 35-year-old Des Moines man. Police said the gun was found in the street and the owner apparently left it on top of the car and it fell onto the street when the car began moving.
