Mexican Grocery Store Robbed in Urbandale Monday
Police are seeking the public's help in identifying two men who robbed the Ecullatina.
The Ecullatina, a Mexican-style grocery store, was robbed Monday morning in Urbandale.
The grocery at 2400 86th St. Suite 1 is in a strip mall just north of Perkins Restaurant and 86th Street and Hickman Road.
Randy Peterson, Urbandale Police spokesman, said the robbery occurred just after Ecullatina opened at 11 a.m.
A female clerk was the only one in the store when two men came in. There was some conversation, said Peterson, then "without warning, they shoved her down and grabbed the (bank) bag."
Peterson said the clerk was "shook up" but not injured. It is the second time the grocery has been robbed. Police solved the first robbery, he said.
The two men did not display any weapons and they took off running westward with the bank bag.
Peterson said police are not disclosing the amount of money that was in the bag.
Urbandale police were able to make an arrest earlier this month of a man accused of indecent contact with a child after asking the public for help identifying a suspect in a hotel lobby videotape.
Today, they are releasing composite drawings of the two robbery suspects along with physical descriptions from the clerk.
One is about 35 years old, five-feet, five-inches tall, 170 pounds with black hair and brown eyes. He was wearing a white, zippered jacket and blue jeans.
The other is about 40, six feet one inch tall, 180 to 200 pounds and was wearing a black or dark-colored sweat suit.
They also released a photograph of the bank bag.
