Out-of-State Street Peddlers in Urbandale Land in Jail

Two out-of-state salespeople discover Urbandale's zero-tolerance for peddling without a license.

An Illinois man and a Nebraska woman were in Polk County Jail last week on misdemeanor soliciting charges.

Tony Evan, 29, of South Holland, IL and Lenore M. Ford, 24, of Lincoln NE, were charged with soliciting without a permit on July 18.  The couple were selling cleaning products in the 8300 block of Parkview Drive.

Urbandale does not allow door-to-door sales unless the sales people first get a peddling license from the city.

Lt. Rob Johansen said because the two both are from out of state, police require them to post a bond to ensure that they show up for court on the misdemeanor charges.

The pair did not have enough money to post the bond so they were taken to jail, he said.
