Rape Reported at Victor's Sports Club in Urbandale; Manager Says No Problems in Bar

A woman told hospital workers she was raped on April 29, but hasn't reported the rape to police.

A woman went to Mercy Hospital West on April 29 and told emergency room staff that she had been raped at in Urbandale.

Police said hospital employees forwarded medical evidence of a rape to police and said that the woman told them she would report the rape to police the next day.

Sgt. Rob Johansen said the woman didn't come to the police station and attempts to contact her were unsuccessful.

"Maybe she changed her mind. It could be legitimate, but she doesn't want to go through with a criminal investigation," he said. "Usually, they call us first. Usually, if they go to the hospital, they will report to us, as well."

Johansen said reports of rape are "rare, rare, rare" in Urbandale.

Police have no details on the case. Because the woman gave the name of the sports bar to medical workers, the case was sent to Urbandale police.

"We have no idea if it happened there or it was after and she left with somebody," Johansen said. 

Erica Hall, manager of Victor's said Wednesday, there was no rape inside the bar and no one came into to bar asking for help.

"I haven't had any unusual situations and none of my staff have reported anything to me," she said.

She noted that the bar is close to an apartment complex where there seem to be a lot of people out at night.
