Red Flags to listen for during Parent/Teacher Conferences
Those all important Parent/Teacher conferences are what's happening this time of year. So listenup, parents, for some Red Flag phrases you may hear when you go to those conferences.
When parents go to conferences, they are wanting to hear great stories about their students and many times, that happens. But sometimes, they might hear things like, "Your child's very smart but they have a hard time paying attention." Or, "Math is a struggle, but reading is great." Or vice versa. "They are having a hard time getting seat work done," or "homework is a struggle; it's taking too long." "They're not turning in assignments." "The daily work they turn in is fine, but they don't do well on the test that covers the same material." "They have trouble following directions."

Listen for these Red Flag phrases that may indicate an underlying learning issue that can be addressed and remedied with the proper training.
When you go to conferences, please be prepared. Ask: How is my child performing overall? Have you noticed one thing or multiple things that need to be addressed? Is their work taking a long time? Can they pay attention when there's multiple things going on in the classroom? Do they do well in class and on homework and then not perform well on the test? (If this is an issue, oftentimes memory is weak and should be addressed)
