School's Back in Session; Adjust Your Driving Accordingly
Urbandale students went back to the classroom Monday. Do you know when it's safe to pass a school bus and regulations on stopping when the arm is extended?

Urbandale Community Schools opened Monday, so adjust your driving accordingly. Here’s the state law on what to do when you encounter a stopped school bus:
When you meet an oncoming school bus displaying flashing amber lights, you must slow down to no more than 20 mph and be prepared to stop. If the red lights are flashing or if the stop arm is out, you must come to a complete stop at least 15 feet from the bus.
You must remain stopped as long as the red lights flash or the stop arm is out. When overtaking a school bus, you may not pass when red or amber warning lights are flashing. Here’s more on tougher penalties that took effect last year as a result of Kaydn’s Law.
