St. Pius Students Collect Hundreds of Shoes for ReUSU A SHOE Campaign
The city of Urbandale awarded students for their efforts.

Three St. Pius X Catholic School class rooms won awards from the City of Urbandale for collecting old athletic shoes.Â
St. Pius X Catholic School partnered with the City of Urbandale to collect old athletic shoes as part of the City's Nike ReUSE A SHOE campaign.Â

This is the second year in a row that the City has run a ReUSE A SHOE campaign and St. Pius X Catholic School has participated both years.Â
The campaign is funded in large part by a grant by the Metro Waste Authority (MWA). The City thanks both St. Pius X Catholic School and the MWA for their support in this campaign.Â

St. Pius X Catholic School collected old athletic shoes for a week in December 2012.Â
Those 321 pairs of shoes collected will be shipped to Nike's recycling center to become material for athletic fields and playgrounds. Â
To liven up the collection, the City offered an award and a prize to the classrooms that could collect the most pairs of old athletic shoes. The winning class was Ms. Pederson's class.Â
The second place award was a tie between Ms.Weibel & Ms. Halligan's class and Ms. Zimmerman's class.Â
Mayor Andeweg presented the winning classrooms with awards and $150 prize for first place and $100 prize for second place on Thursday, January 24th.
