Sweet, Funny Valentines: Daddies and Daughters

Urbandale's Daddy-Daughter Dance Saturday night provided some special time for daughters to share with their dads and granddads, as our photo gallery shows.

This year's Daddy-Daughter Dance, sponsored by the Urbandale Parks and Recreation Department was sold out, with 150 dads and daughters attending the one-hour dance at Urbandale's Senior Center.

Organizer Mollie Wilhite said the city began offering the event a few years back as the dances became a new phenomenon.

"It's something I would have liked to do with my dad," said Wilhite, who said the event is timed to Valentine's Day.

The dance attracts dads with daughters who are pre-teen and younger.

"They dress up and some girls even get corsages with their dad. The guys are in ties and the girls are in fancy little dresses."

The city offered a DJ, photos by a professional photographer, and punch and snacks.

The event began at 6 p.m. and ended at 7 p.m. "We've got to cut them off because the little girls could go all night," she said.
