Teen Girls Caught in Memorial Day Police Checkpoint in Urbandale
The two 18-year-olds got an education on Hickman Road "safety checkpoints" the hard way.

Two teenaged girls were caught in local law enforcement's Memorial Day checkpoint in the 7700 block of Hickman Road.
Abby K. Blankenship, 18, of Clive, and Sarah M. Ortiz, 18, of Windsor Heights were stopped by police at the checkpoint on Friday night, May 25. They were among hundreds of motorists stopped at the check point.

Metro area law enforcement agencies usually do this safety checkpoint in October, but this year, they kicked off the Memorial Day weekend with a checkpoint on Hickman Road, according to WOI-TV.com.
The officer asked for the driver's license and registration and when she opened the glove compartment to pull out her registration, the officer saw a bag of marijuana in the compartment, said Lt. Rob Johansen.

Both were charged with possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia.
