The Most Expensive Shopping Spree One Man Never Had

Find out why a Polk City man regrets stopping at an Urbandale discount store.

A Polk City man learned the hard way just how quickly thieves can rack up a huge bill on your credit card.

The 59-year-old man was shopping at the in Urbandale around 11 a.m. June 18. He told police he thinks he may have dropped his credit card when he pulled out his debit card to pay for his purchases.

Within two hours, someone had charged $1,700 at Walmart, SuperTarget, and Dahl's on the man's card, Urbandale Police Lt. Rob Johansen said.

"They know when they get their hands on them (credit cards), they've got to use them quick because they'll get shut off when the person notices them missing," he said. "So they just go crazy."

Police are investigating the case.
