Urbandale Expels Middle School Student

The Urbandale School Board this month took the rare action to expel a middle school student after a series of disciplinary actions.

The board discussed the matter in closed session and the student's identity and the specifics of the disciplinary incidents are confidential, said Superintendent Doug Stilwell.

The board voted for the expulsion on May 9, he said. He said it is unusual for Urbandale to expel students, but in this case, he said there were enough incidents that future safety of other students weighed heavily in the decision.
