Urbandale Hy-Vee's Old Parking Lot Comes Out

The Urbandale Hy-Vee closed Sunday and already the old parking lot is mostly disassembled.

Heavy equipment operators are breaking up the concrete and transferring dirt across the street to a city lot.

Hy-Vee's pharmacy in the new store is open, however.

The old store is to be torn down. A new parking lot with a fueling station and a greenhouse will be built.  Store officials closed the store for a month in order to finish the parking lot so there will be enough parking spaces for shoppers on Aug. 16, when the store reopens.

Oh, and all that dirt on the city lot?  It's basically fill dirt. The city isn't building anything there now, although it eventually could be a public pavillion say city officials.
