Urbandale Kmart To Remain Open

All of the Des Moines metro area Sears and Kmart stores will remain open, according to an announcement today by the parent company. 

A Cedar Rapids Kmart is on the list, however.

Sears Holdings, which owns Kmart and Sears, announced this week that 100 to 120 Sears and Kmarts would be closed because of declining sales numbers. The first list includes 79 of the stores to be closed.

Closing dates for all 79 stores are listed as "TBA."

An official with Kmart in Iowa City said that store is not expected to close, but the official declined any further comment or to identify themselves and referred Patch to Sears corporate communications for more information.  

A message left with Sears corporate communications was not returned.

Kmart at 3616 W. Kimberly Road in Davenport is the only other Kmart or Sears store in Iowa identified on the list for closure.
