The Urbandale Police Department is pleased to announce two promotions. Each
officer’s bio is listed below.
Lieutenant Promotion:
Lieutenant Matt Logsdon has over 16 years of law enforcement experience and has been employed by the Urbandale Police Department since 1997. Lt. Logsdon received his promotion to Lieutenant in February 2013. Lt. Logsdon is currently assigned to the Patrol Division as the Patrol Commander.
During his law enforcement career Lt. Logsdon has been assigned to various positions within the Urbandale Police Department. The following are positions he has been assigned to: Patrolman, Crimes against Persons Detective, Narcotics Detective, S.E.R.T. Member, S.E.R.T. Commander, and Firearms Range Administrator/Instructor. In 2002 he was promoted to Sergeant and acted in this capacity in the Patrol Division, Criminal Investigation Division, and Mid-Iowa Narcotics Enforcement Task Force.
During his career, Lt. Logsdon has served or currently serves as an instructor in
Firearms, Defensive Tactics, Chemical Munitions, Less Lethal Munitions, ASP
Baton, and Taser. Lt. Logsdon possesses several advanced law enforcement training certificates in tactical training, criminal investigation and narcotics investigations.
Sergeant Promotion:
Sergeant Underwood has worked as a police officer for 11 years. He started his
law enforcement career at the St. Louis Missouri Airport Police in 2001 and has
worked for the Urbandale Police since 2003. Before being promoted in February
2013 to Sergeant he was assigned to the Criminal Investigation Division
investigating Crimes Against Persons.
Sergeant Underwood has a Bachelor’s and Master’s Degree in Criminal Justice
from Central Missouri State University. Currently, Sgt. Underwood is a Defensive Tactics Instructor, Reserve Officer Instructor, Rape Aggression Defense Instructor, Domestic Violence Instructor (FLETC), Field Training Officer, SERT Operator, Bicycle Patrol Officer, and Drug Interdiction Officer.
Sergeant Underwood is a professor at Kaplan University and received membership into the International Law Enforcement Educators and Trainer’s
Association. Sergeant Underwood is also a member of the Iowa Death Investigators Association and Iowa Sex Crimes Investigators Association.
He is a past President of the Iowa Crime Prevention Association. Sergeant Underwood will be in charge of the overnight patrol shift.
