Urbandale Police Dog Helps Find Robbery Suspects
Police dog, Sabre, followed a scent to a parked car near the convenience store. Police found cash and a bb gun inside.
Two men were arrested Friday night and charged with armed robbery of the Git 'n' Go convenience store at 8701 Hickman Road, in part because of Sabre, Urbandale's police dog.
George Douglas, 19, of West Des Moines; and Aaron Keller, 21, of Osceola, both were charged with first-degree robbery. They were booked into Polk County Jail on bonds of $25,000.
Police found a bb gun and cash in a car owned by one of the men, said Randy Peterson, police information officer.

Peterson said two men, using a handgun, robbed the store. The clerk called police after the two men left the store on foot.

Officer Shane Taylor used Sabre to follow a scent to a nearby apartment complex, but the dog lost it there. The dog had also detected a scent at the parked car in question.
Later, as the dog was going over the area again, Peterson said one of the two men walked into the area behind the apartment complex and when police questioned him, his story didn't seem to add up.
Police later searched the car and arrested the men.
