Urbandale's Homecoming, Helmets, and Happy Endings
Urbandale's homecoming week activities headlined Urbandale Patch pages last week, as did the story of a 4-year-old whose life was saved by wearing a helmet.
- SUNDAY: Westcom, the west suburban emergency dispatching center, reported intermittent outages of 911 call service in West Des Moines, Clive and Urbandale.
- MONDAY: Westcom officials say four layers of safeguards failed during the weekend of 911 outages and they don't know why.
- TUESDAY: Tuesday was Toga Day during Urbandale High School's week of Homecoming celebration.Â
- WEDNESDAY:Â Chad and Leslie Dobbs are sticklers for making their kids wear bike helmets. They talk about how 4-year-old Eli is unharmed after a truck rolled over him because of his helmet.Â
- Central Iowa's newest Patch website launches in Johnston.
- And it's Character Day at Urbandale High School. See the photo gallery and fyi: Brody Egger's version of Barney Stinson was voted as the favorite "character." (Read the gallery if you're not sure who Barney Stinson is.)
- THURSDAY: The community pumps up for homecoming with a parade and pep rally. Joey Fitzpatrick and Hannah Torry are crowned king and queen.
- FRIDAY: The J-Hawks defeat the Mason City Mohawks, 35-15.
