Urbandale School Lunches to Go Up a Dime
The Urbandale school board on Monday approved new lunch prices.

Urbandale school lunches will increase a dime next school year.
The Urbandale school board on Monday approved the increase in price: raising the lunch price to $2.30 for preschoolers and elementary students; and $2.55 for middle school students.
The cost for adult lunches will go up 30 cents to $3.50, according to the recommendation of Cathy Conklin, director of Food Services for Urbandale.Â

Conklin wrote to the board that the increase in prices is mandated by the federal government, which provides surplus food to the district through the National School Lunch Program.
The federal program requires school districts to price their meals according to a formula based on the amount of federal money given to the district for free lunches for low-income students.Â
