Urbandale Trucker Leads Couple on Bizarre Chase

Pamela Spring of Urbandale refused to pull over and was talking about aliens, according to witnesses.

An Urbandale trucker arrested for reckless driving in Nebraska on Easter Sunday was hanging out of her semi's window while driving and talking about aliens, according to a couple who risked their safety for 15 miles to get the woman to pull over.

Pamela Spring, 44, is being held in the Douglas County Jail on charges of reckless driving, flight to avoid arrest, driving under the influence of drugs, possession of drug paraphernalia, and leaving the scene of an accident, according to the Nebraska State Patrol.

Patrol officers said they found a methamphetamine pipe in Spring's truck.

Tina Schmidt and Bob Davey told WOWT.com that they were returning to their home in Omaha when they saw a semi-trailer truck weaving back and forth across two lanes of Interstate 80 east of Omaha.

At first, the couple thought the truck's driver must be asleep, but when they pulled their sedan along side the truck to try to get the driver's attention, they saw a bizarre sight.

"She's hanging out the window from her waist -- saying there are aliens -- she's doing all this stuff with her hands," Schmidt told a WOWT reporter in this video. "We figured she was either drunk or high on something."

Schmidt called 911 and was giving dispatchers a minute-by-minute narration of the interstate drama, while Davey was trying to get Spring to slow down and pull over. At one point the semi sideswiped the couple's car.

Dispatchers kept telling the couple to back off until law enforcement could get to the semi.

"I just couldn't do it," Davey told WOWT. "If someone got hurt out of that -- she would have killed them. I guarantee she would have taken out three or four cars -- no problem."
