Worst of Weekend Storm Misses Urbandale
Some of Urbandale's neighboring cities lost power and experienced downed trees. Little of that was reported in Urbandale.

The worst of the effects of the weekend's thunderstorms hit Urbandale's neighbors, but not our city.
Trees were down in Windsor Heights and the west side of Des Moines, but driving around Urbandale on Sunday, it was difficult to spot anything more than a few branches on the ground.
One home's fence was blown down on 73rd Street just north of the Bucanneers Ice Arena.

Jan Herke, Urbandale Parks director, said Monday there was no major damage to city parks, "just typical things we see after storms: a lot of smaller limbs and just a few big ones went down," which she said park employees are cleaning up today.
There also was some sediment under some bridges where the creek went out of the banks and some plugged culverts.

Urbandale Fire Chief Jerry Holt said emergency crews didn't receive any calls about residents injured in the storm.
"We assisted several motorists who were stranded due to high water, mostly from trying to drive through high water. Nothing serious," he said.
More than 25,000 MidAmerican Energy customers lost power Saturday night and about 190 were still without power this morning. West Des Moines, Des Moines and Adel were hit in particular. There were not a significant number of people without power in Urbandale.
