LAST CHANCE: Federal Taxes are Due Tomorrow; Are You Ready, Waukee?

Because April 15 falls on a Sunday this year, the IRS normally would extend the deadline to Monday.
But today is Emancipation Day. (We'd never heard of it either, but in the District of Columbia, it's a holiday they observe.)

According to federal law, District of Columbia holidays affect tax deadlines just as federal holidays do, the IRS says.
So the rest of the country gets an extra day to file its taxes as well.

And if you still can't meet that deadline, you can file an extension. That will give you until Oct. 15 to file a return. The bad news is that you still have to pay your estimated taxes on April 17.Â
And, you have until April 30 to file your Iowa state income tax return.
