Reminder to Waukee Voters: Some Polling Places Have Changed

If you haven't yet cast your vote, you might want to double check your polling place. Precinct workers say there's been some confusion since redistricting.

Polls opened up in Waukee today at 7 a.m. and already there's been some confusion.

Precinct captains at almost all of Waukee's six precincts have said they've had to send people away because they weren't in the right place to cast a vote.

Muriel Nizzi, Waukee 5 precinct captain at St. Boniface Catholic Church, said that they had sent away about 40 potential voters earlier this morning when they realized their precincts had changed since the last election.

"We used to be the biggest precinct and then they broke us up," she said. "Some people don't realize it's changed."

Marilyn Anfinson, a precinct captain in Waukee 6 at the Waukee School Administration Building, said a number of the misdirected voters there have been moved to the Public Works Building at 805 University Ave.

"We've sent a few people away to the Public Works Building and the address doesn't seem to be working on GPS," Anfinson said. "That's frustrating but people have mostly been courteous, respectful and patient."
