Renovated Vince Meyer Learning Center Ready for Fifth-Graders

The renovations to Vince Meyer Learning Center, a 1917 building, are complete. The school will be opened this fall for fifth-graders from Waukee Elementary.

Fifth-graders from Waukee Elementary School will head to a different building when school starts Aug. 14.

The school, built in 1917 and located at 400 Locust St., will open as the Vince Meyer Learning Center. It will house fifth-graders for the 2013-14 school year after extensive remodeling.

Renovations to Vince Meyer Learning Center include a kitchen with entirely new food service equipment, new lockers, paint and carpet, all existing windows were replaced with new aluminum windows, a new heating and cooling system and new landscaping, sidewalk, playground and a new monument sign.

Vince Meyer Learning Center includes 12 classrooms, a gymnasium, a multi-purpose room and a cafeteria.

The building is three stories and was at one time Waukee High School before serving as Waukee Elementary until a new elementary building opened.
