Work began on the Warrior Lane Improvements project on March 15. S. Warrior Lane will soon be widened to three lanes. The existing five-way intersection at S. Warrior Lane, Northview Drive and Ashworth Drive will transition into a four-leg, one-lane roundabout, and Northview Drive will be permanently disconnected from the existing intersection. Crews are now installing storm sewer and working on other paving preparations. Crews expect to begin paving later in June. The anticipated completion date for the project is set for fall 2021, prior to the beginning of the 2021-2022 school year. Thanks for your patience as the City works on this project. As a reminder: Warrior Lane is closed from Ashworth Drive south to Waukee Middle School's north driveway and all legs of the intersection are now closed through the remainder of the project.

SE Ashworth Road Corridor Improvements

The intersection of SE Ashworth Road and Grand Prairie Parkway will be widened to accommodate a four-lane urban section of roadway and new traffic signals on SE Ashworth Road. With these improvements, vehicles will be able to access new businesses and amenities in the Kettlestone Development more efficiently. Initial grading of the site has been completed. Crews expect the joint utility trench is to be completed later in June. The installation of sanitary sewer has also begun.

SE Laurel Street Extension

This project aims to extend SE Laurel Street east to connect with SE Alice's Road. The extension will provide easier access to the Waukee Towne Center development and future businesses in the Alice's Road Corridor. In recent weeks, crews have installed all utilities and completed subgrade preparations. The roadway is now being paved with an anticipated completion date in July. See a map of the project.

Ashworth Road & Ute Avenue Intersection Improvements

Improvements are planned for the intersection of Ashworth Road and Ute Avenue. Turn lanes and a traffic signal will be installed at the intersection ahead of the opening of Sugar Creek Elementary. The final design for the project has been completed. The project is scheduled to bid on July 13. A construction schedule will be determined once a contractor has been selected. See a map of the project.

NW 2nd Street/NW Sunrise Drive Phase 2B

NW 2nd Street will be extended from NW Venture Drive through NW Douglas Parkway. Additionally, NW Sunrise Drive will be extended from NW 2nd Street to NW 6th Street. These roadways will provide access to the new Northwest High School as well as Triumph Park. As part of this project, a roundabout will be constructed at the intersection of Sunrise Drive and NW 2nd Street. To the north of that intersection, another roundabout will be constructed for traffic entering and exiting the high school property. Grading has been completed. Storm sewer has been installed from NW Sunrise Drive to N. Venture Drive. Crews are now working to install water main at the site. The traffic signal at the intersection of NW 2nd Street and Hickman Road has been installed, but it will not be activated until later in June. The project aims to complete construction in the spring of 2022. See a map of the project.

NW Douglas Parkway Phase 2A & 2B

Two lanes of the planned four-lane boulevard section of NW Douglas Parkway will be constructed from NW 10th Street to NW 2nd Street. This section of NW Douglas Parkway will provide access to the north side of Triumph Park. Crews continue to grade the site in preparation for paving. Storm sewer installation is also underway. The project's expected completion date is spring 2022. See a map of the project.

NW 10th Street/NW Sunrise Drive Phase 2A Improvements

This project includes the widening of NW 10th Street north of Hickman Road ahead of the Waukee Community School District’s fall 2021 opening of Northwest High School. The City of Waukee’s future Triumph Park is also located on the site to the east of NW 10th Street. Also, as part of the NW 10th Street project, a portion of Sunrise Drive has been constructed east of NW 10th Street to facilitate access to Northwest High School as well as Triumph Park. A roundabout intersection is located at NW Sunrise Drive and the future NW 6th Street. All street paving has been completed along the four-lane boulevard section from NW Sunrise Drive to NW Douglas Parkway. Pavement patching has been completed along the existing roadway at the southern portion of NW 10th Street. Traffic signals have been installed and activated at intersections along NW 10th Street. Pedestrian trails are nearing completion with final grass seeding to follow. The west side of NW 10th Street has been widened near Hickman Road. The widening of the east portion of NW 10th Street near Hickman Road is expected to wrap up later in June. The east parking lot at the Waukee Trailhead of the Raccoon River Valley Trail is temporarily closed to allow work to progress on NW 10th Street. Stay updated on street road closures.

NE Douglas Parkway Extension

Two lanes of the planned four-lane boulevard section of NE Douglas Parkway will be constructed from NE Badger Lane to N. Warrior Lane. This will include a right turn lane for southbound Warrior Lane traffic. The extension will provide an east-west thoroughfare for traffic to travel through the community more efficiently.

Triumph Park

Triumph Park is a 66-acre park that will feature a sports complex with 12 softball/baseball fields, practice areas, concessions, parking, an 11-acre pond, greenspaces, trails, the EPIC Inclusive Playground, the Greater Iowa Credit Union Miracle League® Field and an ADA-compliant fishing pier. Crews have been busy at the Triumph Park site in recent weeks. At the ball fields, crews have started final grading, dugout construction and the installation of field light foundations. The bike trail has been paved from NE Douglas Parkway to NW 10th Street. Parking lots have been graded, and light pole foundations have been installed. Crews are expected to begin paving the parking lots by early June.
