Waukee Celebrates The Season With Annual WinterFest

The mayor will have a special guest helping him light the Christmas tree at 6 p.m. Dec. 1.

WAUKEE, IA — Christmas carols, ice sculptures, lighting the town tree and warm cocoa must mean it's time for the annual Waukee WinterFest celebration. The tree-lighting begins at 6 p.m. Dec. 1, but guests who come early can browse businesses in the Downtown Triangle District during an open house that begins at 4:30 p.m.

Santa Claus will join Waukee Mayor Bill Peard to light the WinterFest tree and afterwards children can visit with Santa at the Waukee Community Center. As WinterFest continues, an ice sculptor will create holiday pieces and carolers will stroll the area. A scavenger hunt also is planned, along with an old-fashioned trolley tour of holiday lights on nearby residential streets.

You can warm up with cookies and cocoa during outdoor activities or head inside for a soup supper from 6 to 8 p.m. at two sites: Waukee United Methodist Church, where there will also be holiday arts and crafts with the Waukee Area Arts Council, or the Waukee Legion Hall, with Waukee Hardware & Rent-It Center.
