Waukee City Hall Renovations Delayed, Scaled Down
Renovations needed for Waukee City Hall will likely start in November, instead of the summer, due to a higher than planned bid.

Remodeling at Waukee City Hall has been delayed until November instead of this summer and will be reduced in scope after a construction bid came in over budget, the Des Moines Register reported.
In January, Waukee City Council members approved a $183,000 plan to improve cosmetic and functional aspects of the building. Douglas Design and Associates of Glen Ellyn, Ill., drew up plans that included demolition of walls and new walls, new lights, furniture and new signs.
Councilwoman Shelly Hughes told the Register city leaders are taking a more utilitarian approach to the work, but she still expects a portion of the firm's remodeling proposal to be used.
The newspaper said Ball Team LLC of Urbandale submitted a $450,000 base bid to complete the work.
Waukee Mayor Bill Peard told the Register with a growing community, significant changes need to be made to the building.
“We’re asking people to come in here and invest millions of dollars in our community, and our council chamber just isn’t very impressive at all,” Peard said to the Register.
