What If You Planned a Party But No One Came?

Imagine you've planned a party.  Not just any party, but a huge spectacular event! You've hired the best DJ, planned the yummiest food, and lined up awesome family entertainment.  You'll have games for all ages, special guest speakers and even a silent auction with unique items.  You've been planning this special event for 6 months and know that it will be the best party the county has ever seen! The day of the event finally arrives.  You spend the day decorating, preparing the food, setting up the games and silent auction.  At the planned time, you open the doors...and no one is waiting.  No guests have shown up, even though you've invited the whole county!

This is my biggest fear.  You see, my friends and I have been planning such an event.  We are the volunteer planning committee for the American Cancer Society Relay For Life of Southern Dallas County.  For the past six months we've been asking for donations for our Silent Auction.  We've planned the food and entertainment.  We've even talked Jimmy Olsen into being our DJ and Master Of Ceremony for the evening.  We've put up signs and handed out Save The Date cards.  We've even personally talked to people, but yet the only people signed up to walk and enjoy our celebration is, well, US.

We only have TWO months left to get people as excited about Relay as we are, so I decided that desperate times called for desperate measures!  It's time to start BEGGING!

PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE come to my party!  It's going to be a wonderful celebration of life!  Relay For Life is the American Cancer Society's biggest fund raising event.  All of the money that we raise in Dallas County will stay right here in our county and state!  The money we raise can go to a gas card for a cancer patient that needs to get back and forth to Des Moines, Iowa City or even Mayo Clinic for treatment.  The money we raise helps support Hope Lodge, a home away from home for a cancer patient and their caregiver while they are in Iowa City for treatment.  Hope Lodge is free of charge to those that use it!  The money we raise also goes to Iowa State and University of Iowa for their research on cancer.  How wonderful would it be if the cure for cancer came from Iowa?  It could happen as long as we work together and help raise the money to support our scientist!

Joining our party is easy!  Just go to www.relayforlife.org/southerndallascountyia and fill in the information.  You can walk alone or as part of a team.  The fund raising part is pretty easy peasy too!  You can send emails out to your out of town relatives (like I do!) or even post a link on FB!  If you donate money to yourself, it's a tax deduction!  And the best part?  If you sign up, my friends and I won't be eating walking tacos all by ourselves! ;)
