Ames Chamber Artists to perform at Faith Lutheran on April 30

Choir's repertoire includes music from J. S. Bach to today.

The Ames Chamber Artists, an auditioned group of 35 singers, will perform at 4 p.m., Sunday, April 30, at Faith Lutheran Church, 10395 University Avenue in Clive, Iowa.

The Ames Chamber Artists group, now in its 29th season, will perform works by J. S. Bach, Eric Whitacre, Emma Lou Diemer and John Rutter. A free-will offering will be taken.

More than 200 singers have been members of the Ames Chamber Artists since the group was formed in September, 1988. They have diverse backgrounds ranging from teachers, physicians, pastors and over 40 other occupational backgrounds.

The group has performed over 350 different choral works. It has commissioned works by Dale Warland, Dale Grotenhuis, Matthew Culloton and Kenneth and Carolyn Jennings.

Dr. David Johnson, who is the director of music and arts at Faith Lutheran Church in Clive, is the group’s sixth director. He serves as adjunct professor of church music and the arts at Grand View University in Des Moines and previously served as the head of the music department at Manhattan Christian School in Churchill, Montana.

To get to Faith Lutheran Church, located on the west side of the Des Moines area, take Interstate-235 to the Valley West Drive exit (1B). Go north on Valley West Drive to University Avenue, then turn west. Go beyond the At Home store. Faith Lutheran Church is on the north side of University by the Clive water tower.
