Area Nonprofits Receive Grants

Viking Foundation awards 3 local nonprofits a total of $20,000

The Viking Foundation of Lincoln announced its recent funding of 16 grants—including three in Polk County—totaling $80,000 in support of nonprofit organizations in three states.

The following Des Moines-area grants totaling $20,000 were funded:

  • $10,000 to Dress for Success, Des Moines for general program support;
  • $8,000 to New Horizons Adult Day Center for general program support; and
  • $2,000 to Des Moines Pastoral Counseling for their COOL Program, which provides disadvantaged children and youth psychological counseling.

In addition to these contributions, The Viking Foundation awarded a total of $20,000 to these nonprofit organizations in Denver County, Colo.: Bella Boutique, Cross Purpose, Remerg and Wee Cycle; and $40,000 to nonprofits in Lancaster County, Neb.: ACLU-Nebraska, Appleseed-Nebraska, Autism Family Network, Center for Illegal Immigration Assistance, Center for People in Need, Child Advocacy Center, Good Neighbor Community Center, Horses for Healing, and Nebraska Children and Families Foundation.

The Viking Foundation was created in 2012 to help improve and enrich the lives of individuals – especially children – who are less fortunate. The foundation provides charitable grants annually to 501(c)(3) organizations in three counties, including Polk. The grants are directed to those who are challenged with issues related to poverty, housing, gender, education, mental and physical health, and others.
