Black Friday of Garage Sales Comes to West Des Moines Church

A West Des Moines church found a unique way to serve the community. 

The Valley Evangelical Free Church offered a free garage sale for the community last weekend. A line of hundreds of shoppers stretched out the door with a scene, as a KCCI report put it, that's akin to black friday at a shopping mall on the day after Thanksgiving.

"A sign of a vibrant growing healthy church is a church that serves others," one of the volunteers said. 

Parishioners donated that items that were given away and then volunteered to put on the event. Across the street, the church built a $6 million community center with a basketball court, coffee shop and gathering space.
