Child Enticement Attempt In West Des Moines Reported

A 12-year-old boy said he was asked to get into a vehicle as he was walking home from school.

WEST DES MOINES, IA — An investigation into a possible attempt to entice a child is underway after a student reported being asked by a stranger to get into a vehicle. The incident was reported Friday and West Des Moines police are asking anyone who may information to contact them.

KCCI reported today that the police are warning parents about the incident, which occurred when a 12-year-old was walking home from school in the 5500 block of E.P. True Parkway. The child told his parents he heard a male's voice ask him to get into a vehicle, but he refused and ran home.

Police talked with the boy and his mother, KCCI reported. The vehicle believed to be involved is described as a four-door Chevy Silverado 3500. It had a Green Bay Packers hitch cover.

Police told KCCI anytime students are walking to or from school they should follow safety precautions, such as walking in a group when possible, limiting use of headphones when alone to remain aware of surroundings, and remaining within the view of a public street rather than cutting through parking lots or areas that are not well lit.
