One Injured In West Des Moines Hotel Fire Friday Morning
A woman staying at the Valley West Inn cut her hand breaking the glass on a fire alarm.

WEST DES MOINES, IA — Firefighters from three departments were called to the Valley West Inn, 3535 Westown Parkway, early Friday morning when a fire broke out in a second-floor room. The incident was reported around 3 a.m.
The fire reportedly started in a room occupied by a woman and three children and the mother cut her hand breaking the glass to sound the fire alarm, firefighters told KCCI.
Firefighters reported thick smoke and visible flames when they arrived. Crews from West Des Moines, Clive and Urbandale battled the blaze.

KCCI reported firefighters evacuated the building and no one else was injured. They said Polk County Emergency Management is at the scene this morning to assist people.
The Valley West Inn is a daily and extended-stay facility. Fire officials said the building did not have sprinklers, which was not a requirement at the time of construction.
