Remove Litter, Prevent it from Polluting Waterways in Pilot ‘Adopt A Street’ Program

West Des Moines, Metro Waste Authority partner in program to keep public areas clean and attractive, protect waterways and builds civic pride.

The city of West Des Moines and Metro Waste Authority are piloting an “Adopt A Street” program that, if successful, could be expanded to other communities in the Des Moines Metro area.

Litter along community streets create an eyesore and could eventually become pollutants in rivers, streams and lakes, according to the Waste Authority.

Groups or individuals adopting streets agr to adopt at least one mile of the public roadway for at least two years and complete at least four cleanups a year. A complete list of guidelines and an online application form are found on the Metro Waste Authority web site.

  • Grand Avenue - River Ridge Drive to Jordan Creek Parkway
  • Raccoon River Drive - Grand Avenue to the town of Booneville
  • South 35th Street - Grand Avenue to Fuller Road
  • Jordan Creek Parkway - Grand Avenue to Mills Civic Parkway
  • Lincoln Street - South First Street to South 11th Street
  • E.P. True Parkway - Jordan Creek Parkway to 84th Street
  • South Orilla Road. - Maffitt Lake Road to County Line Road
  • Maffit Lake Road - S.W. Connector to South 56th Street
  • Army Post Road - S.W. Connector to Type 3 barricades
  • South 22nd Street - Army Post Road to Maffit Lake Road
  • South 35th Street - Army Post Road to Maffit Lake Road
  • South 42nd Street - Walnut Woods Drive to Maffit Lake Road
  • South 50th Street - Grand Avenue to Mills Civic Parkway
