U.S. Senate Race Results, Iowa: Winner Projected, Settles Control Of U.S. Senate
Race between state Sen. Joni Ernst and Rep. Bruce Braley settles control of Senate.

Voters across Iowa took to the polls Tuesday to settle a closely watched race between Republican state Sen. Joni Ernst and Democrat Rep. Bruce Braley in a U.S. Senate race that could play a big part in determining which party controls the upper chamber.
MSNBC called the race for Ernst at 10:30 local time, effectively returning control of the U.S. Senate to Republicans.
Polls showed Ernst with a narrow lead heading into the vote, but Democrats were taking heart in a Quinnipiac University poll released Monday that showed a dead heat, each candidate with 47 percent of the vote.

Ernst’s campaign featured a popular video where she stated she would “cut the pork” from Washington by using experience castrating hogs during her Iowa farm upbringing. The campaign video was featured on The Colbert Report.
The seat up for grabs is being vacated by Democrat Sen. Tom Harkin, who served in the senate for 30 years.
