Watch: Video Of Donald Trump At Des Moines Rally With Mike Pence

Trump spoke at the Iowa Events Center in Des Moines.

Donald Trump and Mike Pence held a rally in Des Moines, Iowa, on Friday, the first of two events capping off what has been a rough week for the Republican nominee and his campaign. The two also had an even scheduled for 7 p.m. Central at the KI Convention Center in Green Bay.

Trump has been in a near free-fall in the polls, and speculation has swirled that top GOP leaders may be trying to stage an "intervention" with the candidate after he picked a fight with the Muslim parents of an American soldier who was killed in Iraq.

Speaking in Portland, Maine, on Thursday, Trump showed no signs of remorse and did not apologize for any of the issues that have plagued his campaign this week. Instead, he reiterated his claims that he had seen a secret video of Iran loading U.S. money off of a plane, video that his campaign had said Wednesday night was just Fox News b-roll.

Trump entered Friday trailing Hillary Clinton by 6.7 points in the RealClearPolitics average of national polls. The three most recent national polls — from NBC News, Fox News and McClatchy — have Clinton ahead 9, 10 and 15 points respectively.

And the news is even better for Clinton in key battleground states. Recent polls showed her up 15 points in New Hampshire, 11 points in Pennsylvania, 6 points in Michigan and 11 points in Michigan.

It's gotten so bad that several Republican leaders are reportedly considering an "intervention" with the candidate, hoping to wake him up and spark a permanent pivot to a more serious and measured candidate.

The group is hoping for help from Trump's children, whom the Republican nominee says he listens to most, with the aim that they will be able to convince their father to get the campaign back on track after days of feuding with the parents of a fallen Muslim-American soldier that even his closest political allies, like Gov. Chris Christie of New Jersey, have called inappropriate.

Trump, of course, has called the reports false. He said in a tweet early Wednesday morning that "There is great unity in my campaign, perhaps greater than ever before. I want to thank everyone for your tremendous support."
