West Des Moines Driver Injured When Vehicle Crashes Into Home, Overturns

A vehicle collided with a home in West Des Moines Monday night, resulting in critical injuries to the driver.

WEST DES MOINES, IA. -- A 28-year-old West Des Moines man was injured when the vehicle he was driving crashed into a home in the 4800 block of Western Hills Drive Monday night. He remained in critical condition late Tuesday.

West Des Moines police reported a call to the home shortly before 8 p.m. in regards to a single-vehicle collision with a residence. Upon arrival, emergency services discovered a 2003 Ford Escape had overturned and came to rest partially inside the home.

The driver of the vehicle, later identified as Christopher Irvin, was extricated and transported to a local hospital, West Des Moines police said.

Jason and Emily Lyons were in their home when the collision occurred and Jason Lyons told KCCI-TV: “It sounded like a bomb went off."

“If this had been a Saturday at 2 o'clock I would have had five kids in my front yard because they play football out there,” Emily Lyons told KCCI.

Neighbors told the television station they saw the car driving fast before the crash.

The collision remains under investigation by West Des Moines police and no cause for the accident has been reported.
