The West Des Moines Police Department welcomed Officer Jon Kaufman back to full duty on March 8th, 2021. Officer Kaufman was seriously injured when a motor vehicle struck his patrol car on I-35 northbound during the overnight hours of November 8th, 2020. Officer Kaufman and his family would like to release the following public statement:

“After several months of therapy and healing, I am beyond grateful to have returned to active duty status. I would like to express my sincerest appreciation to all who reached out with words of encouragement, prayers, and support during my recovery period. Though normal may look slightly different now to my family and I, we feel so fortunate for the improvement that has been made since the November accident. This experience has only further reinforced my commitment to keep our community safe, and I am immensely proud to serve the residents of West Des Moines.”
