Overland Park resident selected as 2017 Bank of America Student Leader

Blue Valley Northwest High School student Julia Slack selected for the 2017 Bank of America Student Leaders Program

Blue Valley Northwest High School senior Julia Slack was one of five Kansas City-area teens selected to be part of the 2017 Bank of America Student Leaders program this summer. The program awarded the students a paid, eight-week summer internship at a local nonprofit and a trip to Washington, D.C. to participate in the Bank of America Student Leadership Summit.

Julia is an active volunteer at the Youth Volunteer Corps (YVC), which connects local youth with meaningful volunteer opportunities throughout the community. To date, Julia has volunteered more than 850 hours with YVC and has served on both the International Youth Advisory Board and the Youth Advisory Board of Greater Kansas City. She also worked on the One Homeless Night event, which attempts to raise awareness for homeless individuals in Kansas City and across the nation.

As part of the Bank of America Student Leaders program, Julia built upon her previous YVC volunteerism with a paid, eight-week internship at the organization. The internship provided her with valuable work experience while also supporting the nonprofit with extra help this summer.
