Topeka Officer Saving Boy From Drowning Caught On Body Cam

The officer was in the right place at the right time, according to the department.

"I got a kid who fell into the pond! I got him!" That was Topeka Police Officer Aaron Bulmer calling for help as he rescued a 4-year-old boy with autism who had fallen into a pond. The rescue was captured on Bulmer's body camera.

He is breathless throughout as he runs into the pond to rescue the boy, calls to a passerby for help.

"I need some help," he tells the person. "Call 9-1-1 for me. I got a civilian. I got him he almost drowned."

Bulmer had been in the area of 16th and Clay trying to find people who had been involved in a fight in the area.

While looking, he saw the boy walking toward the pond at the Central Park Community Center.

As Bulmer got out of his car, he saw the boy fall in.

He ran to the pond and jumped in.

The child was brought to the hospital to be checked out and was fine. One of his parents, who had been in the area, trying to find him, was located. They were reunited.

The department said Bulmer was in the "right place at the right time. A job well done, Officer Bulmer!"
