Board of County Commissioners

• Commissioners received an update on the COVID-19 Vaccination Survey Results from Elizabeth Ablah, PhD, MPH, University of Kansas School of Medicine-Wichita.
• District Attorney Marc Bennett presented the Office of the District Attorney Salary Study results.
• Commissioners voted to adopt the Kansas Homeland Security Region G Hazard Mitigation Plan.
• Commissioners approved the following under Consent Agenda:
  • Donation of $1,265 to COMCARE for suicide prevention.
  • Renewal grant award from the Kansas Department of Health and Environment (KDHE) in the amount of $936,917 and an agreement with the Kansas Children’s Service League (KCSL) in the amount of $205,000 to provide outreach, prevention and intervention services through the Healthy Babies Program at the Sedgwick County Health Department.
  • Transfer of budget authority from the Risk Contingency to the Risk Management Cost Center within the Management Fun.
  • VAC2021-00003: Dedication of access controls for Lot 1, Block 1 Castleberry Addition, generally located 1,700 feet South of East 117th Street North on the East side of North Broadway Avenue (11500 North Broadway Avenue). District 4.
  • Agreement for construction engineering services by Sedgwick County for City of Derby. District 5.

• In an off agenda item, commissioners voted unanimously to send a Letter to the Editor of the Wichita Eagle showing support for all Sedgwick County attractions and amenities.

• Congratulations to Sedgwick County Chairman Pete Meitzner on receiving the 2021 “Outstanding Citizen of the Year” Award from the Kansas Society of Professional Engineers. Meitzner will accept the award during the Thursday, June 24, luncheon awards banquet in Manhattan, Ks, at their state conference.

• Please use the Sedgwick County Non-Emergency line, 316-290-1011, when reporting non-emergency nuisances that do not pose a threat to life or property; examples include complaints pertaining to parties, excess noise, fireworks, etc. The non-emergency line will be available July 1 thru July 5, each night from 6 p.m. to 3 a.m.

• The American Red Cross is facing a severe blood shortage as the number of trauma cases, organ transplants and elective surgeries rise. These important procedures are depleting the nation’s blood inventory. Donors of all blood types, especially type O and those giving platelets are urged to make an appointment to give as soon as possible to prevent further impact to patients.
