If you’re spending Independence Day in Wichita this year, you’ll have plenty of holiday-related activities to choose from along with a wide assortment of activities and events to keep you busy for the long weekend.

Fourth of July falls on a Sunday in 2021 and there’s plenty to do before, during and after the holiday.

Red, White & BOOM!

If it’s fireworks filling the sky that you’re after, the City of Wichita Park and Recreation will be holding its 6th annual Red, White & BOOM on Independence Day. Festivities will kick off at 5:30 p.m. at Riverfront Stadium with live music, yard games, family-friendly activities and more. Make sure you’re there at 9:50 p.m. when fireworks light the sky over the Arkansas River.

Concert and Fireworks at Bradley Fair

On Thursday, July 1, the annual Bradley Fair Thursday Summer Concert Series wraps up its season with a popular fireworks show following the performance of Kayla Waters, an award-winning urban jazz keyboardist from Clinton, Maryland.

“Red, White, and Broadway – A Star-Studded Tribute to America”

Friday through Sunday, catch a very special Music Theatre Wichita event at Capitol Federal Amphitheater. "Red, White, and Broadway - A Star-Studded Tribute to America" is a 90-minute outdoor patriotic celebration of America and American musical theater featuring local performers, many of whom have Broadway credits. Expect to sing along to tunes including “America the Beautiful” and “Yankee Doodle Dandy” as well as some of your favorites from Broadway shows like “The Music Man,” “South Pacific” and “Ragtime.” There will be a barbershop quartet and fireworks for the July 3 and July 4 shows only. Tickets to this show are selling fast so get your tickets soon!

Wichita Warbird Weekend

Another new July Fourth weekend in event in Wichita is Wichita Warbird Weekend organized by the B-29 Doc Hangar, Education and Visitors Center. Doc is one of only two airworthy Boeing B-29 Superfortress aircraft remaining and hangars in Wichita when not participating in airshows. Our B-29 Doc will host two other World War II-era aircraft in partnership with the Experimental Aircraft Association (EAA) Fourth of July Weekend: B-17 Aluminum Overcast and B-25 Berlin Express.

This is a unique, up-close and personal opportunity to see the three American bombers that helped win World War II. All three aircraft will be on static display and open for ground and cockpit tours Friday, July 2 at the B-29 Doc Hangar, Education and Visitors Center. The aircraft will be on static display the remainder of the weekend unless serving ride flight customers. The aircraft will each operate ride flights on Saturday, July 3 and Sunday, July 4.

Celebrate America

An Independence Day event that happens every year in Wichita is scheduled for Saturday, July 3 this year. Enjoy some good, old-fashioned fun at Old Cowtown Museum as the living history museum hosts its annual Celebrate America event. Watch a magician, be caught in the middle of a wild west gunfight reenactment, see the saloon girls, play carnival games as well as lawn games such as horseshoes and sack races.

Other Events and Activities

If you want to take advantage of a long weekend and explore a variety of eateries, museums and attractions in Wichita, get started on one of our two summer tours – the Wicked Brew Tour and the Wichita Attractions Tour.

The Wicked Brew Tour offers visitors and locals a way to experience a variety of flavors at local coffee shops and breweries. Participants collect at least 10 stamps to complete the challenge and win a t-shirt upon completion. Designed and printed locally by Wichita Screen Printing, the tour’s t-shirts feature a distinctive new look each year. We recommend finishing your passport early though, as shirts are on a first-come-first-served basis and sizes are not guaranteed.

The Wichita Attractions Tour is an all-new tour created by Visit Wichita, which provides an opportunity for locals and visitors to discover the many world-class attractions and museums in Wichita – and get entered into a drawing to win a 2022 family season pass or membership to ALL 12 participating attractions and one Wichita Wind Surge home game of their choosing. It begins May 28 and wraps up on Sept. 6 (Labor Day).
