Rand Paul Assaulted At Kentucky Home: Police

The junior U.S. Senator from Kentucky reportedly suffered minor injuries.

BOWLING GREEN, KY — U.S. Sen. Rand Paul was assaulted at his Kentucky home and sustained minor injuries, according to Kentucky State Police.

The apparent assault happened at around 3:21 p.m. on Friday when troopers were called to Paul's residence in Bowling Green.

"Upon their arrival, it was determined that Rene Boucher had intentionally assaulted Paul causing a minor injury," police said in a statement.

Boucher, 59, of Bowling Green has been arrested and charged in connection with the alleged assault. The investigation is ongoing.

"Senator Paul was blindsided and the victim of an assault," Kelsey Cooper, Paul's Kentucky communications director, said in a statement to The Bowling Green Daily News. "The assailant was arrested and it is now a matter for the police. Senator Paul is fine.”

Jail records show that Boucher was charged with fourth-degree assault and is being held on a $5,000 bond.

Paul, a Republican, is Kentucky's junior senator and has served since 2011.
