Rand Paul, the junior United States Senator from Kentucky, is charged with assaulting a member of congress resulting in personal injury.

Rene Boucher, U.S. Sen. Rand Paul's Kentucky neighbor, is facing a federal charge in relation with the attack on Paul that reportedly left him with five broken ribs, the U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of Indiana announced Friday.

“Assaulting a member of Congress is an offense we take very seriously,” Josh J. Minkler, U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of Indiana, said in a statement. “Those who choose to commit such an act will be held accountable.”

Boucher has been charged with assaulting a member of congress resulting in a personal injury. According to federal authorities, on Nov. 3, Boucher saw Paul stack brush onto a pile and "had enough." Feds allege Boucher ran onto the property and tackled Paul, who was wearing headphone at the time.
