Indiana Man Dies When Firework Hits Him In Chest

The man was killed in the accident that occurred in Kentucky over the Fourth of July weekend.

HENDERSON, KY — An Indiana man was killed in a fireworks accident over the Fourth of July weekend when the firework went off prematurely as he was bending over to light it.

The man was identified as 25-year-old Salem, Indiana, resident Michael Osborne, the Gleaner reports.

"I haven't ever heard of anything like this happening here," Henderson County Coroner Bruce Farmer told the Gleaner.

The accident occurred around 10 p.m. Monday night. According to multiple media reports, the firework is said to have hit the man in the chest.

"The firework hit him hard enough to stop his heart," Deputy Coroner Schwartz Bill Schwartz told the paper. "The preliminary cause of death is blunt force trauma."
