Police Officer Shot In Louisville, Suspect Killed

The officer was seriously hurt in the shooting in Louisville's Buechel neighborhood.

LOUISVILLE, KY — A police officer was shot on Thursday afternoon in Louisville and the suspect was killed, according to Gov. Matt Bevin. The officer was seriously hurt in the shooting in Louisville's Buechel neighborhood, he said.

Neither was immediately identified.

Bevin said on Twitter: "By day & by night, our police have a difficult & often dangerous job. May God bless the wounded officer & his family & may KY stand united with our ."

The shooting was reported around 1:45 p.m. Thursday near Derby and Carey avenues.

The Courier-Journal reported that a bullet grazed the head of a Louisville Metro Police officer. Metro Council President David James told the outlet the officer is expected to survive.

Jefferson County Public Schools said on Twitter that some student drop-offs were impacted by the shooting.

"All affected families have been notified," the district said.
