Louisville Police Shoot, Kill Gun-Toting Suspect: Cops

BREAKING: The officers ordered the man to drop the weapon, and, when he failed to do so, shot him to protect themselves, officials said.

LOUISVILLE, KY — Two police offers responding to a reported assault shot an armed man to death in Louisville, Kentucky, during a confrontation, authorities said. The officers responded late Sunday to a report that someone was being assaulted and gunshots were fired at an industrial park building, Police Chief Steve Conrad told news outlets.

When the officers encountered the suspect, a shootout ensued. The suspect emerged from the building armed with a handgun, Conrad said. The officers ordered the man to drop the weapon, and, when he failed to do so, shot him to protect themselves, Conrad said.

The shooutout happened on the 3200 block of Fern Valley Road, WLKY-TV reported. The suspect was declared dead at a hospital, Conrad said. No officers were shot.
