The most popular boy’s name in Kentucky in 2020 was Liam. Liam means a strong-willed warrior and protector. The name is a contraction of the Irish name Uilliam, which is derived from the Frankish name Willahelm, which means helmet of will.

As many as 19,357 boys were born in Kentucky last year. Of them, 271, or 1.40%, were given the name Liam.

The second and third most popular boy names in the state in 2020 were William and Oliver, respectively. About 1.26% of boys born in the state, or 244 baby boys, were named William. About 1.21%, or 234 newborn boys, were named Oliver.

The most popular girl’s name in Kentucky in 2020 was Amelia. The name is Latin but has a Germanic origin that means “laborious.”

As many as 16,682 girls were born in Kentucky last year. Of them, 240 baby girls, or 1.44%, were given the name Amelia.

The second and third most popular girl names in the state in 2020 were Olivia and Ava, respectively. About 1.31% of girls born in Kentucky, or 218 baby girls, were named Olivia. About 1.28%, or 214 newborn girls, were named Ava.
