Melissa Pickering Named Advocate Health Advisors Regional Manager

Melissa Pickering, of Lafayette, La., has joined Advocate Health Advisors as Regional Manager. Pickering will be responsible for recruiting, training and supporting insurance agents throughout Louisiana.

Pickering will help new and established agents grow their Medicare business and works with national insurance carriers that offer Medicare Advantage plans. Offered by private insurance companies, Medicare Advantage plans offer a wide variety of non-medical benefits and provide coverage for social determinants of health, such as transportation, fitness plans and meal delivery.

Medicare Advantage plans are all-in-one plans that provide medical benefits as well as coverage for a wide variety of social determinants of health, such as transportation, fitness plans and meal delivery. Advocate Health Advisors agents are Medicare experts who serve as trusted advisors for those who are Medicare eligible and specialize in helping those turning 65. The company has agents in all 50 states and the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico.

At Advocate Health Advisors, local licensed agents help clients make important decisions involved in finding a Medicare plan that suits their individual needs and continue that relationship beyond the enrollment process to support the client.

Previously, Pickering was a broker sales manager with Cigna Medicare. Prior to joining the insurance industry, she was a psychology instructor.

Pickering holds a PhD in Health Psychology from Walden University, a Master’s in International Business Management from University of Texas at Dallas and a Bachelor’s of Science in Communications from the University of Texas at Austin.

“I am looking forward to starting a new team, expanding the Medicare business in Louisiana and surrounding areas, and improving lives for seniors who need assistance with the Medicare process," Pickering said.
