Parents Throw Newborn In Trash, Wait Hour To Call 911, Police Say

The parents of a newborn found in the trash face attempted murder charges; baby remains on life support.

ALEXANDRIA, LA — A newborn found in the trash in a home in Alexandria, Louisiana, remains on life support and the infant’s parents, Thelma Kirkland, 30, and Carl Hall, 31, are charged with attempted first-degree murder, according to media reports.

Before police arrived at the couple’s home on Feb. 21, emergency medical personnel had been dispatched there on a report of a miscarriage. They alerted police, saying they found the still-breathing newborn in the trash while they were treating Kirkland.

Police are releasing few details, including whether the infant was born prematurely or the baby’s gender.
